The history of the daisy brooch

The first daisy brooch is designed as a daisy flower head of 238 brilliant-cut diamonds and 444 rose stones, set in platinum, and is made by jewelers Carlman in Stockholm.

When Crown Princess Ingrid married Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark and Iceland on 24 May 1935, she was given the brooch by her father, the later King Gustav the Sixth of Sweden, in memory of her mother, Crown Princess Margaretha of Sweden, who had already died in 1920. only 38 years old, and whose nickname in the family was "Daisy", which is the English word for daisy.

Shortly after Queen Margrethe's birth in 1940, several prominent jewelers in Denmark produced marguerite series in silver with enamel, including Anton Michelsen, Volmer Bahner (which we continue to produce at Lund Copenhagen) and Bernhard Hertz.

The brooch was undoubtedly one of Queen Ingrid's favorite pieces of jewellery, and she wore it very often. Queen Margrethe wore the brooch at her wedding as "something borrowed" together with her grandmother's lace and veil, which Queen Ingrid had inherited from her mother.

The Marguerite is thus the symbol of the beautiful Crown Princess Margaretha - Queen Margrethe's grandmother, from whom she inherited both her real name and her nickname.
